Description
Español: El lienzo representa los últimos momentos de Fernando IV el Emplazado (1285-1312), rey de Castilla y León, que falleció en la ciudad de Jaén el día 7 de septiembre de 1312. Según la leyenda, el rey fue emplazado para comparecer ante Dios por los Hermanos Carvajal, caballeros de la Orden de Calatrava, a los que el monarca había hecho arrojar, introducidos en una jaula de hierro con puntas afiladas en su interior, desde la cumbre de la Peña de Martos, situada en la provincia de Jaén. El monarca, según refiere la Crónica de Fernando IV, así como la Crónica de Alfonso XI, falleció treinta días después de que los hermanos Carvajal fueran ejecutados, cumpliéndose así el plazo que ambos le habían impuesto, de que comparecería ante Dios al cabo de treinta días.
