Description
English: 5 floor stone-made tower in the place where Chilgok Jungdo-sa existed. Treasure of South Korea No.357
한국어: 2층 기단(基壇)에 5층의 탑신(塔身)이 올라간 형태이다. 현재 5층 지붕돌은 없어지고, 상륜부의 장식 받침인 노반(露盤)이 남아 있다. 1층 기단에는 코끼리 눈을 본 떠 만든 무늬가 새겨져 있으며, 2층 기단부터 탑신까지 기둥 모양이 새겨져 있다. 1층 몸돌에는 문짝과 자물쇠 모양이 조각되었는데, 깨끗하면서도 아름다운 느낌을 준다. 지붕돌은 4단 받침에 추녀 밑으로 낙수홈이 있다. 탑 이름이 기단에 해서체(楷書體)로 새겨져 있으며, ‘태평십일년(太平十日年)’이라는 글자가 함께 보인다. 태평은 중국 요(遼)나라 연호로, 1031년(고려 현종 22)에 해당하며, 이 탑이 이 때 세워졌음을 알려주고 있다. 이 탑의 해체 복원 시 발견된 ‘조성형지기(造成形止記)’에 따르면, 당시 승려 지한의 주도하에 이 지역 향리와 백성들이 국가의 평안, 전쟁의 종식, 풍년을 발원하며 세운 탑이라 한다.
