Deutsch: Schauplatz ist die ›via triumphalis‹ der preußischen Hauptstadt, die Straße Unter den Linden, auf der eine Parade des sechsten Brandenburgischen Kürassier-Regiments stattfindet, das der Großfürst und spätere Zar Nikolaus I. anführt. Man sieht ihn an der Spitze seiner Truppen auf König Friedrich Wilhelm III. zureiten. Die Hand grüßend am Federhut steht dieser hoch zu Roß gegenüber der Neuen Wache im Schatten auf der Südseite. Entgegen den konventionellen Kompositionshierarchien des Ereignisbildes hat der Maler den Monarchen an den Rand des Ereignisses gerückt. Die Damen sind an den Fenstern des Prinzenpalais, die Herren stehen davor. Gegenüber zwischen dem braunen Pferd und dem Kopf des Schimmels stehen Alexander von Humboldt und Giacomo Meyerbeer, über dem Kopf des Schimmels der Komponist und Berliner Generalmusikdirektor Gasparo Spontini; in der rechten Bildhälfte hinter dem Sänger Heinrich Blume und der weißgekleideten Schauspielerin Karoline Bauer, die auf den Betrachter zutreten, eine Gruppe von Künstlern: Johann Gottfried Schadow, Karl Begas d. Ä., Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Karl Wilhelm Wach, Christian Daniel Rauch; rechts oberhalb von ihm mit dem Schutenhut, Johanna Krüger, geborene Eunicke, eine Sängerin. Im Hintergrund als Reiter im braunen Rock der Maler selbst; ganz rechts in der Kutsche die berühmte Sängerin Henriette Sontag und der Geiger Niccolò Paganini

Object history | 1824 bestellte der russische Zar Nikolaus I., der Schwiegersohn des Königs von Preußen, beim Künstler das Gemälde »Parade auf dem Opernplatz«. Nach seiner Fertigstellung hing das Werk zunächst im Petersburger Winterpalais. Kurz vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg kam das Bild als Geschenk des Zaren an den Kaiser nach Berlin zurück und fand im Schloß seinen Platz. 1928 gelangte es in den Besitz der Nationalgalerie. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
