Né à Zurich en 1910, mort à Paris en 1999, Rolf Liebermann fut l’une des personnalités musicales majeures du XXe siècle. Compositeur, chef d’orchestre, metteur en scène, il dirigea successivement les Opéras de Hambourg (1959-1972) et de Paris (1973-1980). Au Palais Garnier, son nom est attaché, entre autres, aux Noces de Figaro dans la mise en scène de Giorgio Strehler (production reprise cette saison) ou à la création mondiale de la version en trois actes de Lulu dirigée par Pierre Boulez. A l’occasion du centenaire de sa naissance, le Staatsoper de Hambourg s’associe à la Bibliothèque-Musée de l’Opéra et à l’Opéra de Paris pour rendre hommage à cette personnalité d’exception.
