Summary
[edit]Description2020Nov9-compaction-cart-offload-HR.jpg |
English: An 80,000 pound compaction cart is offloaded from a C-17 at McMurdo Station's Phoenix Airfield.
The cart is used to compact the snow to the hardness of concrete, allowing wheeled aircraft to land. This was the heaviest single piece of cargo ever delivered by C-17 to Phoenix Airfield near McMurdo. Due to COVID-19 protocols, all personnel interacting with newly arriving flights must wear face masks. |
