В левой части рисунка, на сцене театра, княгиня А.Н. Трубецкая и княжна А.С. Долгорукова изображают “живую картину” на тему поэмы А.С. Пушкина “Бахчисарайский фонтан” с Заремой, приближающейся с кинжалом к Марии; в нижней части композиции, слева: графы В.Ф. Адлерберг, Ф.Ф. Берг, А.К. Рибопьер, барон П.К. Мейендорф; в глубине великие князья Владимир Александрович, Александр Александрович, музыкант Леви; князь А.М. Горчаков (опирается рукой о стол); по другую сторону стола фрейлина П.А. Бартенева. В центре композиции, в глубине: императрица Мария Александровна, наследник цесаревич Николай Александрович, Александр II, великий князь Константин Николаевич, великая княгиня Ольга Федоровна, великий князь Николай Николаевич, великая княгиня Александра Иосифовна, великий князь Михаил Николаевич, великая княгиня Александра Петровна, княгини С.А. Гагарина и М.А. Вяземская. Справа, в глубине, на втором плане: граф А.В. Адлерберг, А.В. Паткуль, граф П.К. Ферзен, Ф.Н. Тотлебен, граф С.Г. Строганов, барон Лоен, графиня Е.Н. Адлерберг, барон А.Е. Отмечая в своем дневнике все сколько-нибудь значительные или занимательные события, Константин Николаевич записал 24 октября: “…обед и вечер, как всегда, в Арсенале. Были живые картины. «Бахчисарайский фонтан»”.
