English: Madame Carette was a lady-in-waiting to Empress Eugenie. She carries a small brooch with the monogram of the empress on left side of her silk dress. Madame Carette was considered a great beauty of her time and her resemblance to the empress was considered striking. In her later memoirs, she would describe how uncomfortable in fact some of dresses, as beautiful as they looked, were. |
