Notes
English: This painting depicts a Canadian Highlander throwing a grenade from the safety of a trench. The relatively straight-arm throw involved lobbing the grenade rather than throwing it like a baseball from over the shoulder. Grenades were particularly effective weapon in close quarters trench fighting or in knocking out strong points without exposing the thrower to enemy fire.
