(b. 1683, Paris, d. 1757, Berlin) Jean Mariette, Engraver 1723 Oil on canvas, 113 x 93 cm Musée Carnavalet, Paris Pierre-Jean Mariette (1694–1774) was a print collector, a renowned connoisseur, especially of prints and drawings, and a chronicler of the careers of French Italian and Flemish artists. He engraved and printed several plates, an aspect of the family business. He was a central figure in the artistic culture of Paris for decades.
