Rückseite: ΕΠΙ ΑΓΟΝΟΘ-Ε-Τ-ΟΥ - ΑΡΤΕΜΑΓ // ΑΠΑΜΕΩ/Ν. Athena sitzt auf einem Felsen und spielt Doppelflöte. Sie wendet sich um über ein Gewässer und sieht ihre durch das Flötenspiel veränderten Gesichtszüge. Im Hintergrund beobachtet, halb von einem Felsen verdeckt, der Satyr Marsyas das ... Kommentar: Das Rs.-Bild erzählt den Mythos von den Anfängen des Flötenspiels. Nachdem die Göttin Athena das Spiel mit der Doppelflöte erfunden hatte und auf dem Instrument spielte, erblickte sie ihr durch das Spiel angestrengte Gesicht, welches sich im Wasser spiegelte. Voll Abscheu warf sie die Flöte weg. Der Satyr Marsyas, der Athena beobachtet hatte, nahm die Flöte an sich und eignete sich das Flötenspiel an. Voll Stolz auf seine Musik forderte er Apollon zum musischen Wettstreit heraus, was von dem Gott nach dessen Sieg mit der Häutung des Marsyas grausam bestraft wurde. Literatur: SNG Aulock Nr. 3497.
