DescriptionArms of Philip Mountbatten (1947-1949).svg |
English:
Coat of Arms of Philip Mountbatten (born 1921) granted in 1947 to Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark (Sir Philip Mountbatten). The arms were considered 'unsatisfactory' and were replaced by a new one granted in 1949. In 1947 the Prince was made Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich and a Knight of the Garter by King George VI, he later married HRH Princess Elizabeth, the Heiress Presumptive to the British and Commonwealth thrones. The coat of arms represents his lineage as a Prince of Greece and Denmark on his paternal side and his descent from Queen Victoria on his maternal side. Arms of "Philip Mountbatten" (1947-1949), granted in 1947 before his marriage to Princess Elizabeth: arms of the Royal Family of Greece (Glücksburg) with inescutcheon overall in dexter chief of the arms of HRH Princess Alice, his maternal great-grandmother, 3rd daughter of Queen Victoria.
