(b. 1593, Roma, d. ca. 1653, Napoli) Minerva 1640s Oil on canvas, 131 x 103 cm Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence Looking to classical sculpture for the deity's pure profile and posture, Gentileschi produced an opulent and very humanized portrait of the goddess of war. The bronze Medusa shield in the lower right was one of her attributes.
