Description
English: Austin Family Arms

Shield: Argent, on a fesse between two chevrons Sable three cross-crosslets of the first, within a bordure of the same charged with a wreath of laurel and roses Proper.

Crest: A cross between wings Argent.

As depicted, these are the arms of Elias Austin, father of Moses Austin, father of Stephen F. Austin. In his latter years, Stephen F. Austin modified the original coat of arms to symbolize that he was an American pioneer by replacing the three cross-crosslets with a deer's head, though the tincture and orientation are not known. He also changed the Latin cross atop the crest into a form of cross-crosslet: a Latin cross with crosslets on only the three upper arms
