Notes Caption from the museum's website: "Das Porträt zeigt eine Fürstin in jugendlichem Alter, den Blick auf den Betrachter gerichtet. Ihre hochgekämmten Haare fallen in langen Locken über die Schultern um die sie den Fürstenmantel trägt. Die Rückseite des Bildes ist beschriftet mit "D:F:F:Z: Hanau G.M:Z:B: Anspach", was sich in "Dorothea Friederike Fürstin zu Hanau geborene Markgräfin zu Brandenburg-Ansbach" auflösen lässt. Allerdings liegt hier eine Verwechslung bei der Beschriftung des Bildes vor. Die Porträtierte könnte allenfalls Magdalene Claudine von Birkenfeld (1668-1704) sein, die erste Gemahlin des Grafen Philipp Reinhard von Hanau-Lichtenberg (1664-1712). Sie war die Tante der "Großen Landgräfin" Henriette Caroline von Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld (1721-1774), starb aber bereits lange vor deren Geburt. Das Gemälde stammt aus dem ehemaligen Familienzimmer des Karlsruher Schlosses, aus der Porträtgalerie der Häuser Baden-Durlach und Hessen-Darmstadt, die Markgräfin Caroline Luise von Baden-Durlach (1723-1783) hier eingerichtet hatte."
