Note : La représentation de ce blason date du milieu du XIXe siècle, époque où l'on a cru que Guillaume était un des fils de Milon, comte de Bar-sur-Seine. On lui a attribué à tort les anciennes armes du comté de ce nom qui elles-mêmes semblent plus tardives. Charles Métais, qui publia « les Templiers en Eure-et-Loir » en 1902 ainsi que les travaux de la société archéologique d'Eure-et-Loir, a permis de mettre en évidence que la famille de Chartres dont Guillaume était issu n'avait rien à voir avec ce comté. En fait, Milon, qui n'a eu qu'un seul fils, était issu de la maison du Puiset dont certains membres ont été Vicomtes de Chartres, d'où la confusion. De plus, il existe un ouvrage (le seul) qui ajoute la mention de « bars contournés » pour illustrer les armes des vicomtes de Chartres [1] et qui ne fait que s'ajouter à la confusion.
