Notes:

• Initialement, c'est le blason des premiers comtes de Nevers.
• Cette famille s'éteignit en 1181, et le blason fut repris à une date indéterminée par les comtes de Gueldre (Source : Armorial Wijnbergen, n° 626 archive copy at the Wayback Machine). En 1276, avec le mariage avec Ermengearde, duchesse de Limbourg, fr:Renaud Ier de Gueldre ajouta une couronne et abandonna le semé de billettes.
• Les comtes de Bourgogne, à cette époque étaient de la famille de fr:Hohenstaufen et portaient de gueules à l'aigle éployé d'argent. Le comte Othon IV (1248 † 1302), un de ses successeurs, préféra se tourner vers le royaume de France, et abandonna ses armes en 1279 pour reprendre celles des comtes de Nevers. Quelques siècles plus tard, le comté de Bourgogne devint la fr:Franche-Comté (sources).
