Notes
English: The theological virtues (Faith, Hope and Charity) and the cardinal virtues (Fortitude, Prudence, Justice, Temperance) originally formed part of the decoration of the backrests in the Court room of the Mercatanzia in Florence, the supreme entity of administrative-commercial justice in 15th-century Florence housed in the palazzo of the same name located on the corner of Piazza della Signoria and via del Gondi. By the latter half of the 16th-century the court and the panels had been moved to the ground floor of the Uffizi.
