For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
ADN-ZB-Ritter-24.9.87-Berlin: Friedrich II. hoch zu Pferde. Das Reiterstandbild Friedrich II. in Berlin Unter den Linden gilt als Meisterwerk von Christian Daniel Rauch (1777-1857). Um 1836 schuf Rauch die endgültigen Entwürfe, und um 1840 erfolgte die feierliche Grundsteinlegung. Den II.Weltkrieg überstand das Kunstwerk eingemauert in einen Ziegelblock. In den Jahren 1962-1980 stand es im Hippodrom des Parks von Sansousi. Der König ist in zeitgenössischer Tracht dargestellt. Den Sockel flankieren Feldherren des Monarchen und andere bedeutende Zeitgenossen in nicht ganzer Lebensgröße ausgeführt.
