| Description |
Nederlands: Praam of pranger van ijzer uit de Romeinse tijd, gevonden in Tiel-Passewaaij. Dit ijzeren voorwerp bestaat uit twee delen die op een uiteinde met een scharnier aan elkaar zijn verbonden. In het midden zijn beide ijzeren delen voorzien van afgeronde zaagtanden; de uiteinden, waaraan de praam werd vastgehouden, zijn glad en eindigen in ronde knoppen.Dit voorwerp staat in verband met de paardenhouderij. Op een Romeins reliëf uit Frankrijk zijn twee mannen afgebeeld die kleine operaties verrichten aan paarden. Bij een van de dieren wordt de lip vastgeklemd met een soortgelijke tang. Ook uit recente tijd zijn dergelijke `pramen’ bekend. Hun werking is te vergelijken met de naald van een acupuncturist. Door met de tang te knijpen in bepaalde drukpunten in de bovenlip van een paard, wordt het dier rustig en laat zich zonder verdoving allerlei handelingen welgevallen. Afmetingen: hoogte 5.2 cm.
