English: Portrait of Carlo Emanuele III of Sardinia (1701-1773), misidentified with his father Victor Amadeus II of Savoy (1666-1732).
"La firma "Guidobono fecit" potrebbe riferirsi a Domenico Guidobono (imitatore del più abile fratello Bartolomeo), documentato a Torino dal 1710 al 1724 per diversi pagamenti di quadri per S. A. R. e per altri lavori in Palazzo Reale, prima di partire per Genova (Vesme, 1966). Se così fosse, il sovrano qui raffigurato, in età matura, con il collare dell'Ordine dell'Annunziata e il bastone del comando, non potrebbe essere Carlo Emanuele III (come riporta l'inventario del 1966), nato solo nel 1701; potrebbe trattarsi piuttosto di Vittorio Amedeo II (1666-1732), la cui età si aggirerebbe in questo caso intorno ai sessant'anni. L'estrema difficoltà nel rilevare i numeri di inventario ha permesso di accertare la sola localizzazione del dipinto risalente al 1966, registrato dove si trova oggi, nella Sala dei Paggi: secondo una comunicazione orale di Cesare Bertana, l'opera sarebbe un acquisto relativamente recente del Principe di Piemonte, quindi estranea alle antiche collezioni sabaude. ;"
