Description
English: Charles I, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal (1682-1770), officer in Danish and Austrian service. Since 1698 at the Danish court, studies at the Copenhagen academy. Captain of the Danish bodyguards on foot (1700), lieutenant colonel (1703), brigadier general of the Danish infantry (1709), general major of a battalion of the Royal Danish bodyguards on foot, in English and Dutch service (1710), lieutenant General of the Danish infantry (1715), Lieutenant General of the army in French service (1721). After 1748, the Austrian Emperor Charles VII appointed him Imperial "General Field Marshal Lieutenant." Knight in the Order of the White Elephant (1731).
