Blazon InfoField | Deutsch: Die Gemeinde Grefrath führt gemäß Genehmigungsurkunde des Regierungspräsidenten in Düsseldorf vom 16. Mai 1972 ein Wappen, ein Dienstsiegel und ein Banner, die wie folgt beschrieben werden:„Das mit gleicher Urkunde des Regierungspräsidenten in Düsseldorf genehmigte Wappen (Schild) ist durch ein schmales, schwarzes Kreuz gespalten und geteilt; rechts oben und links unten silbern (weiß), links oben und rechts unten golden (gelb), belegt mit einer roten Lilie.“
Das Gemeindewappen ist eine Zusammensetzung aus verschiedenen Elementen, die den Wappen der zuvor eigenständigen Orte Grefrath und Oedt entnommen sind. Die rote Lilie im Vordergrund entstammt ursprünglich dem Wappen der Ritter von Greverode, deren Nachfahren diese Wappenfigur (bis heute) auf goldenem Grund führen. Die Familie von Greverode ist seit dem 13. Jahrhundert in Grefrath, das damals ebenso hieß (Greverode = Rodung der Grafen), belegt. Aus dem Oedter Wappen wurden die weiß-gelben Flächen im Hintergrund sowie die schwarze Kreuzform in das Wappen der neuen Gemeinde übernommen. English: „The fleur-de-lis is taken from the old arms of Grefrath, the colours from the arms of Oedt. The cross is the cross of the State of Köln, to which the present municipality belonged.“ |
