Deutsch: Das von Wolfgang Pagenstecher aus Düsseldorf entworfene Wappen wurde am 28. November 1936 vom Preußischen Staatsministerium genehmigt. Das Wappentier der Herzöge von Berg, der Bergische Löwe, soll die traditionelle Zugehörigkeit des Kreises zum Bergischen Land dokumentieren. Schloss und Ähre weisen auf charakteristische Wirtschaftszweige im Kreisgebiet hin.
