Object history |
English: The city of Munderkingen was founded by the Lords of Emerkingen before 1260 and sold to the Dukes of Austria before 1297. Although the city was pawned several times, the dukes remained the local rulers until 1805. The first city seal, of which prints are known since 1289, shows a crowned lion facing left, considered to be the Habsburg lion. From 1340 onwards, the lion was depicted facing right, with a star behind its tail. In the 17th century, the position of the star was changed, and the lion was placed on a triple mount. The Habsburgs granted the city the old coat of arms of their family: the rampant, red, and crowned lion. A seal from 1286 is considered the first evidence of this coat of arms. The first colored representation of the coat of arms can be found on a disc from 1614 in the town hall. |
