Matthäus Merians Stich von 1646 ähnelt stark dem Holzschnitt von Trier von 1548 in Sebastian Münsters Cosmographiae Universalis (Titel: Situs & figura antiquissimae & praecipuae Medioniatricum ciuitatis Treuirensis), die als die erste authentische Stadtansicht von Trier gilt. Zwar ist Merians Ansicht detaillierter als der Holzschnitt, bildet aber bauliche Veränderungen, die zwischen 1548 und 1646 vorgenommen wurden (z. B. an der Konstantinsbasilika) nicht ab. Vergleich Kategorie:Münster-Holzschnitt Trier und den vollständigen Holzschnitt in der lateinischen Ausgabe der Cosmographiae Universalis von 1550 auf Historic Cities
