English: Effect of diffraction blur in (macro) photography, accompanied by a loss of resolution/sharpness with decreasing apertures. The picture series was made with a DSLR (sensor size APS-C) and a 90 mm (FF equ. 135 mm) macro lens at minimum focal distance (~29 cm) and maximum magnification ratio (1:1) at nine different aperture settings. The best results can be seen between f/4 and f/8. Afterwards, resolution/sharpness are getting weaker more and more. On the other hand, a smaller aperture enables a wider depth of field.
Deutsch: Anschauungsbeispiel für den Effekt der sogenannten Beugungsunschärfe in der Fotografie bei abnehmender Blendenöffnung des Objektivs. Der obige Ausschnitt der Textrückseite einer alten Schallplattenhülle wurde mit einer DSLR-Kamera (Sensorformat APS-C) und einem Makroobjektiv aus geringstmöglicher Distanz (ABM 1:1; Fokalabstand ca. 29 cm) neunmal mit verschiedenen Blendenöffnungen von der Offenblende (f/2,8) bis zur kleinsten Blende des Objektivs (f/32) aufgenommen. Eine Ausschnittvergrößerung ungefähr aus der jeweiligen Bildmitte zeigt in der unteren Bildserie den sich mit dem Blendenwert verändernden Schärfeeindruck. Bei der Offenblende (links) ist typischerweise eine gewisse Abberationsunschärfe vorhanden, ebenso wie lila Farbsäume an den Kontrastkanten. Um eine Stufe abgeblendet wird die Abbildungsleistung deutlich besser und erreicht bereits ein sehr gutes Niveau (zumindest hier in der Bildmitte). Die beste Auflösung zeigt sich bei den Blendenöffnungen f/5,6 und f/8; danach macht sich zunehmend Beugungsunschärfe bemerkbar. Die in der Makrofotografie oft gewünschte größere Schärfentiefe, die durch kleine Blendenöffnungen erzielt wird, muss also mit dem Nachteil abnehmender Detailschärfe erkauft und je nach Motiv abgewägt werden. |
