DescriptionDouble Venus symbol (outline).svg |
Two interlocked astrological Venus symbols by Gustavb and modified by Switchercat. The planet Venus is named after the Roman goddess. In modern science, the association of the symbol as representing the female sex is attributed to botanist Carl Linnaeus, who used the symbol as shorthand in his charts of plant reproductions and variations. In the 1970s, two interlocking Venus symbols became associated with female homosexuality and the lesbian community. (Three interlocking Venus symbols are often used to represent feminist sisterhood and pride.) |
