Summary
[edit]DescriptionE. Caruana Dingli, Olga with Santipaulia Flowers.jpg |
English: Portrait of a lady on a gilt armchair. Identified as Mrs Olga Galea Naudi, the beautiful, blonde wife of an ex- military man, Carlo Galea Naudi, a lawyer and a long acquaintance of the painter Edward Caruana Dingli. It is known that the painter broke up with his wife Charlotte Marietta Giovanna Falzon (1880- 1960) in around 1913, around thirteen years after they married. His wife and sons moved out to an other residence in Sliema, while the painter lived in a humble apartment in VallettaThis was the beginning of a new chapter in the artist`s life. He left the Maltese Militia and decided to dedicate his life to art. He reputedly had a scandalous relationship with the blonde chirpy Olga, which he never gave up. From 1913 onwards, the artist built up and intensive and fruitful career and eventually became the most prominent sought after portrait painter of his time in Malta. Today there are various portraits of Olga painted by the artist found hanging in private and public collections around Malta and abroad. Inscription: Signed ECDingli |
