Description |
The word Tschibuktschi (the German way of spelling it), was used for servants in charge of pipe cleaning. Elisabeth Jerichau Baumann visited Istanbul in 1869 and was given access to the Grand vizier, Mehemed Ali. She described the incident in her book, Brogede Rejsebilleder (Travel scenes in colour), from 1881. |
