Description
English: Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo and his family "Portrait of the grand ducal family. According to what was published by Sandra Pinto (Curiosity of a Palace, p. 124) on the recommendation of Amelia De Palma, the painting was executed by the Saxon painter Berczy during his stay in Florence between 1781 and 1782. According to the tradition of portraits "in conversation" wanted by Maria Theresa for her family, Berczy portrays here the entire grand ducal family (with the exception of the children born after 1780 and Albert and Maximilian who died in tender In fact, the following can be recognized: at the harpsichord the eldest daughter Maria Teresa (1767-1827) who married Augustus of Saxony on 18 October 1787 with Maria Anna (1770-1809), Carlo (1771-1847) and Alessandro Leopoldo (1772- 1795). On the lap of the mother Amalia (1780-1798) and near the little Antonio (1779-1835), while around the globe the eldest sons Francesco (1768-1835) and Ferdinando (1769-1824). Left in the foreground Giuseppe (1776-1847) and Maria Clementina (1777-1809) who married Francesco di Borbone in 1797, heir to the throne of the Two Sicilies"
