Description
Русский: Герард фон Кюгельген. Портрет Павла I с семьёй. 1800. Государственный музей-заповедник «Павловск». Холст, масло. 146 х 215. Слева внизу подпись и дата: "Gerard Kugelgen 1800". ЦХ-3589-III.
  • Императорская семья изображена на фоне Павловского парка. Справа на заднем плане виден фасад Павловского дворца, обращенный к реке Славянке.

На картине слева направо изображены: вел. кн. Александр Павлович в мундире Лейб-Гвардии Семеновского полка, опирающийся на пьедестал с бюстом Петра I, рядом с ним стоит вел. кн. Константин Павлович в мундире Лейб-Гвардии Конного полка; дальше прислонился к коленям матери-императрицы Марии Федоровны маленький вел. кн. Николай Павлович. За фигурой сидящей императрицы стоит вел. кн. Екатерина Павловна, а в центре композиции, за арфой изображена вел. кн. Мария Павловна. За ней в тени деревьев находится колонна с бюстом умершей в младенчестве вел. кн. Ольги Павловны. Далее, опершись на колени императора Павла I (в мундире Преображенского полка), стоит младшая дочь - вел. кн. Анна Павловна. У подножия кресла на земле сидит ребенок - вел. кн. Михаил Павлович. У правого края картины стоят вел. кн. Александра и Елена Павловны.

  • Кюгельген работал над портретом в 1799-1800. В Отделе рисунков Государственного Эрмитажа хранится подготовительный рисунок пером (инв. № 40419) с расхождением в деталях. Более близкий к окончательному варианту рисунок экспонировался в 1911 в Риге (настоящее местонахождение неизвестно). Портрет предназначался для личных комнат императора в Павловском дворце.
  • Обращает на себя внимание анахронизм в изображении мундиров Александра и Константина. Их фрачный покрой с очень высоким стоячим, открытым спереди, воротником был введен Александром I только в 1801. Нововведение в покрое легко обнаружить при сравнении формы старших сыновей с костюмом Павла I. Это обстоятельство указывает на то, что "Семейный портрет" частично переписывался художником после смерти Павла I. В рукописном Каталоге картин Павловского дворца, составленном в 1925 В. Зубовым, имеется указание, что на эту несообразность обратил внимание еще император Александр II. При исследовании картины в инфракрасных лучах было обнаружено, что картина действительно переписывалась, и первоначально формы Александра и Константина выглядели иначе.
