Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The European reserve "Federsee" (NSG 4.019) with its bird sanctuary (DE-7923-401) provides suitable breeding conditions for several endangered bird species. Up to 20 pairs of the Common tern (Sterna hirundo) are found here in summer to breed on artificial rafts and to hunt for fish in the clear waters of the lake. Merely the extended growth of spatterdock (Nuphar lutea) makes it somewhat difficult for the birds to spot their prey. This photo shows a bird after its successful hunt for a Common rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus).
