Description
The experts at Bruun-Rasmussen were somewhat vague about the identity of the two Zytphen-Adelers. The wife was described as Sofie, born Steensen-Leth, but that did not make things easier. The only Steensen-Leth on record to marry into the Zytphen-Adeler family was Petra, born in 1873, and the only Sofie on record was Sophie Louise de Falsen Zytphen-Adeler, baroness and a daughter of the family, born 1872. So if the 1876 date holds, both are out of contention. There are a number of male Zytphen-Adelers who had an age fitting for the painting, so any attempt of identification would be pure guesswork.
