Description |
Portrait en miniature de Sophie Philippine Élisabeth de France (Versailles, 27 juillet 1734 - Versailles, 2 mars 1782), plus connue sous le nom de Madame Sophie. Elle est la sixième des filles et la huitième des dix enfants de Louis XV et de Marie Leszczyńska. (dont les portraits en miniature sont également proposés sur notre site). Notre miniature, d'une exeptionnelle qualité d'execution, est peinte sur vélin. Elle est contemporaine du portrait que fit Jean-Marc Nattier de la princesse en 1748. L'oeuvre reprend le portrait mais en élargissant sa composition afin de la rendre rectangulaire et horizontale et de pouvoir être montée sur le couvercle d'une riche tabatière, offerte par la famille royale. La tabatière, précieux cadeau diplomatique, souvent faite d'or et de diamants à disparue (sans doute démontée et vendue). La miniature a été remontée au XIXe siècle dans un cadre en bronze doré couronné fait sur mesure. Cette pratique de démontage des tabatières offertes par la famille royale était hélas courante, parfois même à peine le présent reçut, les joailliers voyaient parfois revenir à eux une tabatière qu'ils venaient tout juste de livrer aux "Menus Plaisirs du roi". |
