"Prinz Georg Wilhelm von Hessen-Darmstadt „in der Uniform als Generalmajor und Inhaber des Landgräflich Hessen-Darmstädtischen Kreisregiments“ 1752. Im Jahr 1874 angefertigtes Gemälde des Darmstädter Malers Heinrich Reinhard Kröh (* 7. Mai 1841 Darmstadt; † 14. Dezember 1941 Darmstadt). Prinz Georg Wilhelm (21.7.1722 Darmstadt – 21.6.1782 Darmstadt, 2. Sohn des Landgrafen Ludwig VIII.) wurde am 14.7.1738 zum Obrist und Inhaber des Regiments ernannt. Am 1.1.1746 erfolgte die Beförderung zum Generalmajor, am 19.4.1753 zum Generalleutnant und 1767 zum General der Kavallerie. Folgt man den Angaben des Malers, müsste der Prinz also dargestellt sein im Zeitraum ab 1746. Um die Taille trägt der Prinz die Offiziersschärpe in den blau-weiß-(resp. silber-) roten Landesfarben Bis 1752 sollte diese Schärpe über der Schulter getragen werden, so dass sich die Darstellung dann auf den Zeitraum zwischen 1752 und 1753 beziehen müsste.."
