"Con due quadri di grandi dimensioni, una serie di ritratti e di studi, una figura al vero, all'aria aperta, sotto il sole: con la Femme, premiata a Milano, Giacomo Grosso ci dà il concorso suo. [...]
Ma ancor più sicuro ci appare nel Rimpianto, in cui la pienezza della tecnica sconsiglierebbe qualsiasi appunto che si volesse fare. Al Grosso piace sfidare e risolvere le difficoltà. E quest'ampia tela, che avrebbe potuto pel suo soggetto essere contenuta anche in più piccole proporzioni, senza perder nulla del suo fascino e del suo valore rappresentativo, pare quasi la pietra di paragone e d'assaggio dell'artista. Il quale ha ottenuti nel lucore della notte lunare effetti notevolissimi di luce: ha sentito e conservato quello che di leggiero c'è nell'aria, con trasparenze morbide, con delicatezze indefinibili."
