Notes | The woman was portraited against a background of Warsaw as seen from Praga (the towers of Warsaw's Holy Spirit Church are visible on the left). The painting, considered as one of the masterpieces of Polish art, was looted by the Germans from the National Museum in Warsaw during World War II. It appeared at a small auction house in Buxtehude near Hamburg in November 2010. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
