(b. 1267, Vespignano, d. 1337, Firenze) No. 38 Scenes from the Life of Christ: 22. Ascension 1304-06 Fresco, 200 x 185 cm Cappella Scrovegni (Arena Chapel), Padua The Ascension and the Pentecost are not among the most famous of the Arena Chapel frescoes, despite their very high quality, and the decorative and colouristic richness which underline their spiritual significance. The strikingly decorated mantle worn by one of the apostles is as magnificent as the gold-trimmed garments of the souls freed from limbo, who ascend heavenward with Christ.
