Before 1996/7, according with this page and the Article 1 of Italian Legislative Decree No. 440 of July 20, 1945, the general copyright duration was 56 years from the time of the author's death. So as of January 1, 1996 the works of authors died before 1940 were in the public domain. Giacomo Grosso died in 1938 and, for that, the U.S. copyright for this work was not restored.
