Notes Signed by Monamy and dated 1734. The painting appears to be based on a mezzotint by Elisha Kirkall, produced circa 1725-1730. See M.S.Robinson: "The Paintings of the Willem van de Veldes, published 1990, Vol 1, pages 235-236. He notes that "a long inscription [refers] erroneously to the Mary Rose action in 1669. It was probably painted on in the late eighteenth century."
