Français : L'Enfant reconnaissant - La reconnaissance de la mère et de l'enfant envers la chèvre qui avait nourri ce dernier alors bébé parce que la mère ne pouvait pas l'allaiter. Pendant d'un tableau exposé avec succès par l'artiste au Salon de 1804, La Chèvre nourrice ou Une jeune femme faisant allaiter son enfant par une chèvre, où figure une jeune mère qui ne peut pas allaiter son fils: elle regarde avec tristesse une chèvre qui remplit la tâche à sa place.

  • Pendant du tableau La Chèvre nourrice, ou Une jeune femme faisant allaiter son enfant par une chèvre, dite aussi Une jeune femme - n'ayant pu continuer d'allaiter son enfant, elle le regarde téter la chèvre qui la supplée, et s'abandonne aux réflexions que sa situation fait naître, exposé au Salon de 1804 (numéro 310 du livret) et acheté par Caroline Murat, soeur de Napoléon et reine de Naples.
  • Proposé aux musées nationaux de France par Lorimier en 1853 : "1853, 19 juillet : Mlle Henriette de Lorimier offre le « Portrait de M. Pouqueville » pour le musée du Luxembourg, et propose à l'acquisition un tableau représentant « La reconnaissance de la mère et de l'enfant envers la nourrice » pendant de celui acheté par la Princesse Murat, Reine de Naples « La chèvre nourrice d'un enfant » ; Acceptation du « Portrait de Pouqueville » pour les Galeries de Versailles et refus du second tableau ; Mlle de Lorimier accuse réception de la réponse de M. de Nieuwerkerke ; 1853, 19 juillet- 1854, 4 août.[5p.]" source
