Description |
English: "Jacobina Copland (c. 1778-1807), only child of William Copland and heir to an estate in Kirkudbright, Scotland, is fashionably dressed in a simple wrapping-gown of white muslin, held in place by a blue sash. A white muslin scarf is wound around her lightly powdered hair, "à la citoyenne" - a style then fashionable. The portrait was painted either in 1794, at the time of her first marriage to John Ronaldson, or in 1798, when the young widow married her cousin William Rowe Dunbar, later the 6th Baronet of Mochrum." |
