Description
Nederlands: Hida ontwerpt de stoommachine voor de Chiyodagata maru, het eerste stoomschip dat in Japan zelf wordt gebouwd. In 1864 reist Hida naar Europa om er onderzoek te doen. Hij wil in de stad Yokosuka een scheepswerf gaan bouwen en zoekt naar voorbeelden. In de jaren erna vervult Hida verschillende belangrijke functies voor de Japanse regering. In 1885 krijgt hij een hoge functie bij de keizerlijke hofhouding.
English: Hida designed the steam engine for the Chiyodagata maru, the first steamship to be built in Japan. In 1864, Hida traveled to Europe to conduct research. He wanted to build a shipyard in the city of Yokosuka and was looking for models. In the following years, Hida held various important positions inthe Japanese government. In 1885, he was given a high post at the imperial court.
