Notes
  • Liebermann painted two versions of the subject dated 1876 and 1877, each titled Nähschule (Arbeitssaal) im Amsterdamer Waisenhaus (Sewing School (Workroom) in the Amsterdam Orphanage). The same subject was treated by other artists of the period, notably Thérèse Schwartze. The orphanage, located in the heart of Amsterdam, still exists, but as a tourist attraction.
