Title
Hortense Mancini, Duchess of Mazarin (1646-1699)
Description
English: Portrait of Hortense Mancini (1646-1699), niece of Cardinal Mazarin (1602-1661).
"A 'limned' miniature of the Duchess of Mazarin is recorded in the Royal Collection during the reigns of James II and William III. Although the term 'limned' suggests a watercolour miniature, it is possible that these descriptions refer to the present miniature, which is copied from a portrait at Althorp, Northamptonshire, previously attributed to Sir Godfrey Kneller, but probably by Jacob-Ferdinand Voet. Several portraits of the nieces of Cardinal Mazarin by Voet are known, including others apparently of Hortense Mancini. Hortense Mancini, duchesse de la Meilleroye and duchesse de Mazarin married in 1661, Armand Charles de la Porte, duc de la Meilleroye and duc de Mazarin."
