Painel de azulejos de oficina de Lisboa, da 1ª metade do século XVIII () existente no Museu da Cidade, Lisboa, onde no primeiro plano aparecem tipos populares a comercializam bens de consumo e, no lado esquerdo é representado o Chafariz de Neptuno, equiparado ao dedicado a Apolo, existente no Terreiro do Paço. O Hospital Real de Todos-os-Santos tinha fachada virada para o Rossio e fora mandado erigir por D. João II em 1492, mas a sua construção só terminou no reinado de D. Manuel I, nos primeiros anos do século seguinte. Edifício de vanguarda na época, acolheu os primeiros internamentos em 1502, com regimento e estatuto de Escola de Medicina e o número de enfermarias foi crescendo ao longo do tempo: 3 (1504), 16 (1520) e 25 (1715). O Hospital Real de Todos-os-Santos foi desactivado na sequência do Terramoto de 1755, ocorrido a 1 de Novembro desse ano, o qual foi responsável pela destruição quase completa da cidade de Lisboa e foi substituído depois pelo Hospital Real de São José, no que restou do colégio de Santo Antão da Companhia de Jesus.(Rui Carita) |
