English: Portrait of Alexander Gogel (1765-1821), Dutch politician.
Deutsch: Isaac Jan Alexander Gogel (1765-1821), erster Finanzminister der Batavische Republik (1795-1806) und des Königreichs Holland (1806-1810), verheiratet seit dem 22.06.1796 mit Catharina van Hasselt. Sie hatten drei Kinder. 1811 wurde er, ebenso wie 1808 bereits Goethe, von Napoleon in die Ehrenlegion als der Chevalier de l'Empire (Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (Ch. LH)) aufgenommen und in den Französischen Adelsstand erhoben. Auf dem Portrait wurde er mit dem Orden der Ehrenlegion abgebildet, erkennbar am Orden mit der roten Ordensrosette. Daneben trägt er noch den napoleonischen Stern des Großen Adlers (Grand Aigle). Seine Eltern waren der deutsche Offizier im Dienste der Batavischen Republik Johann Martin Gogel (* 27.08.1724 † 11.06.1796 Vught), Sohn eines Frankfurter Weinhändlers und Alexandrina Crull, Tochter eines Weinhändlers aus Harlem. Seine Eltern begründeten den holländischen Zweig der Frankfurter Familie Gogel. [1]
