Description
Jeremiah lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem. The old prophet sits on the rocky slopes of a mountain, his head resting on his left arm. Beside him stand a gold dish, a gold jug and books, all treasures from the now destroyed temple. To the left, further down the mountain, burning buildings of Jerusalem en soldiers can be seen.

: Alexander Sergeievich Stroganoff (1733-1811), Nevsky Prospekt 17, Saint Petersburg (as ‘Le philosophe en méditation.
