The Patient Merchant

(The merchant:) We merchants are very much the cause, / that princes and lands flourish.
Give us a treat and it is answered with applause! / Confiscating goods is how I nourish.

(The customer:) But when you (merchants) ration our sons, be they noble or lay, / by (financing) war, conflict, and other means to kill.

Be aware that the Lord is patient to collect and pay! / God gave, God took: it is all but the Lord his will.
