Max Klinger. Leipzig 1877
Notes A study for a print entitled "Chausee", published in 1883 in the "Vier Landschaften" as the second in turn. The artist also repeated the theme in a similar print, which became part of the "Vom Tode Erster Teil" in 1889, showing the second tree shattered by lightning and a killed man below. Klinger's landscapes are not a pure reflection of nature, but an expression of the creative imagination that evokes the artist's contact with nature. Extending indefinitely, the road seems to be a symbol of human life.
